Spokane Submission Series Tournament – 2019
Four members of Pride Gym BJJ attended the Spokane Submission Series tournament on Feb 2, 2019.
Jared Kovac competed in his first tournament in the adult white belt division. With only 6 months experience, Jared fought well and in Gi he placed 3rd.
Brandon Krumm competed in his weight class in the adult white belt division against many opponents who had wrestling backgrounds. In Gi, Brandon won a match by ezekiel choke, and fought well in his other 2 matches but fell short of a medal.
Gilbert Champagne competed in the adult blue belt division. In Gi, Gilbert lost his first match but made a strong comeback and won his next 3 matches by loop choke, guillotine choke and by bread cutter choke. He earned 2nd place in the finals.
In No-Gi, Gilbert fractured his elbow against his 2nd opponent and had to withdraw from competition.
Noah Champagne competed as an orange belt in the Teen Yellow Belt and up category. In Gi, Noah finished his opponents by americana, and by referee’s decision after overtime. Noah lost in overtime in the finals by points and came away with the silver medal.
In No-Gi, Noah displayed some excellent judo throws and came away with the Gold medal, defeating his opponents by armbar, standing arm lock and ezekiel choke.
